COVERS
When it comes to covers, there’s no one-size-fits-all — and that’s where Chris’s personal approach makes the difference. He takes the time to walk you through the various quality options, materials, suppliers, and designs available, helping you choose exactly what suits your venue. Too often, venues end up with the wrong size or type of cover from companies focused on a quick sale. We’re here to make sure you get the right solution — the first time.
1
STANDARD COVERS
Standard covers are designed to protect playing surfaces, turf, and valuable ground space from weather damage, overexposure, and wear. Whether used for cricket pitches, sports fields, agriculture, or horticulture, they help extend surface life, prevent waterlogging, and reduce downtime during wet or extreme conditions.
Our standard covers are made to order and tailored specifically to your site’s needs. We don’t hold stock or offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we work closely with you to determine the correct size, material, and handling setup to suit your venue.
Our goal is simple: to help you avoid the all-too-common mistake of ending up with the wrong product, and instead deliver a solution that works, lasts, and fits properly from day one.

GROWTH COVERS
Growth covers — or turf blankets — are permeable, woven, translucent, and breathable sheets that create a greenhouse-like environment for turf surfaces.
They allow the turf canopy to breathe, let natural UV light through, and help retain heat and moisture, creating ideal conditions for turf development. This microclimate effect can increase soil temperatures, leading to earlier root growth, faster seed germination, improved growth, and protection from birds and strong winds during establishment.
In some cases, solar covers or solar blankets are also used. While they can be effective tools, their use must be carefully managed within the right environment, timeframes, and conditions — otherwise, they can negatively impact turf health.

HESSIANS
Hessians, also known as burlap, are a traditional woven textile made from natural jute fibres. They play a crucial role in cricket wicket preparation, typically used as an underlay directly on the prepared wicket beneath your main covers.
When covers heat up, condensation forms underneath and can drip onto the surface. The hessian underlay absorbs this moisture, preventing droplets from landing on the pitch. Without hessians, each droplet can swell the black clay soil slightly, which — when multiplied across the wicket — leads to an uneven surface. This can cause scalping when using a cylinder mower, affecting both the appearance and playability of the pitch.
Hessians also help retain moisture and slow the drying process, giving curators greater control during preparation. In some conditions, multiple layers may be used to manage heavier condensation.
To ensure a long lifespan, it’s essential to dry hessians thoroughly before storing. Storing them wet can lead to decay and make them prone to tearing during use. A dry hessian is a good hessian — the drier they’re kept, the longer they’ll last.
A standard hessian weighs 18oz and at 25m long x 3.6m wide, it weighs approximately 34kg.
